Is Web 2.0 Really For You?
Ted
We have been bombarded with this latest trend and transformation of the internet. Web 2.0 Social sites like MySpace, FaceBook, Hubpages and video sites like YouTube draw immense crowds and the traffic numbers to these sites is staggering.
It has been reported that more and more people are spending more time on the computer and less time watching television or pursuing other recreational activities.
Socializing on the web has become the easiest way for humans to interact with each other. We can hide behind the anonimity of the keyboard and live out our fantasy lives with others around the world.
Then too, there is the entertainment value. Watching YouTube videos for hours of enjoyment can relieve stress and give us an out from our hectic everyday lives.
So what good is all this traffic to those of us with an online business. All the GOO-ROOS are telling us to put up pages and lenses and profiles and such to attract people to us and our websites. Then in the next breath, they say to be really careful how you promote or you could be banned. That right there is telling me that this medium is not for selling and the membership does not want to be bombarded with sales pitches. So why all the hype?
Now I can see how this might be a viable marketing approach IF these people were looking for information or wanting to buy something but remember, these people are relaxing, socializing and partying online. They don’t intend to buy. They came to hang out. If you start to pitch them, they will report you as a site spammer and you will quickly fade to black.
SO, their traffic is basically worthless to me. I would rather concentrate on building an active list, getting good search engine results amnd linking articles on EzineArticles to my sites to get people that are actually looking for my information and maybe want to buy something too.
SO…Is Web 2.0 the demise of online businesss or do you think social sites can make you improve your income?
To your continued success,
Ted
